Yes, you read that right – these homemade dog treats consist of only three ingredients! During these days of quarantining and social distancing, I know many of you are at home trying several new recipes. Well, why not add this recipe to your repertoire? P.S. this is not only perfect for dogs, but it’s also human-friendly too.
If you have a dog like mine, s/he loves peanut butter! Honestly, I have yet to meet a dog who doesn’t like peanut butter. My dog also loves bananas, so this recipe is absolutely pawfect (who doesn’t love a good dog pun) for those peanut butter and banana-loving four-legged friends. What’s awesome about this recipe is that you know exactly what goes into each treat. Easy to make with healthy and clean ingredients!
Ingredients
- 1 large ripe banana or 2 medium ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup of natural peanut butter (do not give your dog peanut butter that contains xylitol; this is a sugar substitute that is poisonous to dogs and cats)
- 1 1/2 cups of old-fashioned rolled oats (I used Bob’s Red Mill old fashioned, gluten-free rolled oats)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with a reusable cookie sheet liner or parchment paper.
- Blend the old-fashioned rolled oats until it becomes fine.
- In a mixing bowl, mash your banana(s) and peanut butter with a fork.
- Add the oats into the bowl and mix well until the dough is firm and pliable. If you find that the dough is too crumbly, you can add a couple tablespoons of peanut butter and continue to combine.
- Roll out dough onto a cutting board and cut the dough with a cookie cutter (I used a dog bone cookie cutter, appropriate for the recipient).
- Bake the cookies for 15 minutes or until lightly brown. Allow the cookies to cool for 10 minutes.
The treats can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a week, or refrigerated for two weeks, or in the freezer for a couple of months. Your dog will be over the moon for these treats! My dog was salivating all around the place when I gave him the first one.
Here is a link to the cookie cutters I used. It’s a 3-piece set where the cutters measure from 2″ to 3.5″. The smallest cutter is ideal for small dog breeds, while the largest cutter is perfect for large dog breeds.
